Tellus Energy Solutions GmbH
Tellus Energy Solutions GmbH is an innovative start-up dedicated to exploring and developing natural hydrogen in combination with geothermal energy. Its mission is to provide decentralized, scalable, and sustainable energy solutions for communities, industries, and logistic hubs. Founded in February 2025 in Franconia, the company is headquartered in Hersbruck.
Geological studies conducted by the GeoZentrum Nordbayern at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg have revealed high levels of hydrogen in soil air measurements across certain regions of Northern Bavaria. Building on these findings in collaboration with the university, Tellus Energy Solutions is dedicated to exploring and harnessing the full potential of natural hydrogen in combination with geothermal energy as a clean and sustainable energy source for the future. As Germany’s first and only start-up with this concept, the company holds a significant knowledge advantage. This advantage is vital for realizing their ambitious plan to establish Europe’s first production facility for natural hydrogen.
The three founders and managing directors of Tellus Energy Solutions GmbH are Dr. Jürgen Grötsch, Peter Zaal and Dr. Barbara Steinbauer-Grötsch. All three have many years of professional experience in their respective fields. The combination of technical expertise and pioneering spirit is coupled with the desire to make a contribution to fighting the climate crisis. Responsible corporate governance, technical competence and transparent communication are at the center of all activities.

Our Economic Model
Tellus Energy Solutions GmbH uses a risk-reduced business development model that mitigates financial and operational challenges. Our integrated approach to producing natural hydrogen in combination with geothermal energy minimizes investment risk by ensuring a solid economic base through the production of base load energy from geothermal energy.
From North Bavaria to the World
Tellus Energy Solutions aims to unlock the full potential of natural hydrogen and geothermal energy. We are planning our first pilot project in North Bavaria, but the model is designed for global replication so that our solutions can be adapted to suitable regions and energy needs worldwide. Our goal is to develop hydrogen production sites that integrate seamlessly into local communities and provide low-cost, sustainable energy, while promoting economic growth and energy independence.
